4. The boat should be power washed to clean off any accumulated dirt and grime.  Once this is finished, an anti-corrosion spray should be applied to provide additional protection.  This will prevent the absorbance of moisture and guard against odors.  As previously stated, a cover needs to be in place to help with this as well.

5. The hull must be supported at all times when the boat is put into the storage space.  Failure to do this simple task could result in major repairs next spring which could cost many thousands of dollars.

6. The engine should be drained of coolant and filled with propylene glycol.  This antifreeze is non-toxic, which is not only much better for the motor, but is also more environmentally friendly.

7. Any sails, fenders, anchors or lines should also be removed.  It is also good to remove seat cushions, flares and fire extinguishers.  Make sure that all openings are ajar for the winter.  This will help air flow and prevent the build up of mildew.  Also be sure that there isn’t any food in the refrigerator.

8. Finally make sure that holding tank is empty and flush the unit with clean water 2 to 3 times. Make sure that the intake seacock is closed and the hose removed.  Put a 50-50 mix of water and antifreeze into this. Pump all of the head hoses out of water and replace it with anti-freeze. Replace the seacock hose now and leave it closed.
